Solspot
Plant light meter
Lay your phone flat where the pot will stand and Solspot reads the light with the camera exposure meter, in lux, with the honest range around the number. It then matches that against 200 houseplant species, including ASPCA pet-safety data. It runs fully offline, with no account, and Solspot Pro is an optional one-time purchase.

What it does
Free
- Reads light in lux through the camera exposure meter, taking no photo while it measures
- Four light categories from Low to Direct sun, each with its real range attached
- 200 plant species matched to the light you actually measured
- Pet toxicity from the ASPCA lists, marked unverified where those lists are silent
- Saved spots with history, so a windowsill can be re-measured in winter
- Made for iPhone Duo: a reading beside the plants that suit it, and two-column plant pages, Spots and Care. On iPhone Duo it measures with the outer camera, closed and lying flat
- Two-column layouts on iPad in landscape
- Fully offline, no account, in ten languages
Pro, one purchase
- This spot through the year: when direct sun reaches the window, how the light changes month by month with your local weather, and the sun's path drawn over the view
- Compare spots: which of your spots gets the most light
- Grow-light planner: how close to hang a white lamp, checked with the camera, and how long to run it
- What's wrong with my plant? Likely causes from what you see, pests and false alarms included
- Light through the day: morning, midday and evening readings show how a spot's light moves
- See it in 3D: turn a plant around before you buy one
- A photo journal with then and now side by side, and a growth time-lapse
- Repot dates, and rhythms for turning, cleaning leaves, pest checks and pruning
- Alternate app icons
- The daily care reminder and "See it in your room" for anyone who installs from version 1.7. Everyone who installed an earlier version keeps both free
